MAMA STYLE: SWIM FAVORITES

We’re (finally) starting to get a taste of spring weather, spring break is right around the corner and then it’s full steam ahead to summer and lots of pool time and this mama needs a new swimsuit or two.  I absolutely loved my suit from last year but by the end of the season it had seen better days and needs replacing badly. I’ve been on the hunt for a new suit or two and found some that I’m really loving.

Swimsuits and cover ups are worn daily around here when the weather warms up so having a couple on rotation is a must have in my spring and summer wardrobe.  After having worn a black suit for the last couple of years, I’ve forgotten how much I like a swimsuit in a fun color!  Here are a few current favorites.swim favorites

WISH LIST: AMERICAN EAGLE

I recently popped into American Eagle to try on a couple of things I’ve had my eye on for fall and winter.  It’s been awhile since I’ve shopped there but it seems like it’s pretty popular with the mom crowd these days so I wanted to check it out for myself.  I used to LOVE AE back in the day (eek, that makes me feel really old) but wasn’t sure if I could pull it off anymore.   I was pleased to find a few things I really loved and have my eye on for fall and winter.

If I would have known that the weather was going to change pretty drastically overnight, I would have brought a couple of these home with me.  It was SO cold (for us anyway) early last week that these would have been perfect to have in my closet.

I tried all of these on in store, with the exception of number five because my store didn’t have it in stock.  The tops were all SO soft and had plenty of length, something I was worried about.  The jeans fit really well and were incredibly comfortable.  I could easily wear them all day and not feel like I had jeans on, which is a huge win in my book.  Add booties or slip on sneakers to any of these outfits and you’re set for casual errands, lunch with girlfriends or dinner with the family.  I love pieces that make it easy to look put together but are also incredibly comfortable.  These are those pieces!

THE NEW GYMBOREE WILL MAKE YOU SMILE

This post contains affiliate links. That means if you click on a link and make a purchase from the site, I will earn a small commission from the sale. I’ve received compensation for this post. All content and opinions are my own.

Have you seen the new Gymboree? They recently launched their brand new refresh line and it’s SO good! I was blown away with how many cute things they released and couldn’t wait to make a trip into our local store to check it out in person.  Last weekend Lexi and I popped into Gymboree and were both very excited about what we saw.  Her favorite thing may be the kitty ear headband that came home with us and makes us both smile every time she wears it.

Gymboree Sale On Now!

So whats new? In short, everything!  Gymboree asked modern moms what they were looking for in kids clothing and delivered big time.  With changes like:

  • mix and match clothing – making it easy for kids to dress themselves
  • the best kids’ jeans – super comfortable, soft and durable
  • more cozy, high quality pieces for babies
  • a more modern sense of style
  • increased comfort, softness and attention to detail

Gymboree wants to be known for quality once again and I’d say they are on the right track!

Watching Lexi develop her own personal style makes me smile.  She’s only four but definitely has opinions on what she likes to wear and likes to come up with her outfits on her own.  The days of me dressing her are quickly disappearing.

Luckily, we both agree that Gymboree has some really great pieces for her closet for back to school.  A few of my favorites are this rainbow top, the camo culottes and this sweatshirt.  She LOVES the kitty ear headband (ok, maybe I’ve been converted and love it now too), this skirt and this skirt.  We both love the cherry graphic tee!  This raincoat is adorable, I wish this jacket came in her size and this hoodie is a must because she’s always cold.

In addition to the kitty ear headband, we took advantage of the 2/$24 graphic tee promotion and brought this one and this one home with us! They are super soft and I know she will get a lot of wear out of them.

We decided to let Dylan choose a few new things himself (we want to make him smile too), when we go back to school shopping but I thought I would share a few of my favorites for boys with you.THE NEW GYMBOREE WILL MAKE YOU SMILE

For Dylan, I love this look and asked him what he thought of it and was surprised when he said he liked it and would wear everything, including the camo sneakers.GYMBOREE MADE YOU SMILEimage via Gymboree

His closet always makes me smile because it only has things he wears and loves and nothing else.  I love this tee and am considering it for both of them….matching makes us smile over here!

Dylan’s closet is mostly graphic tee’s, long sleeve shirts like this one and the softest slim fit jeans I can find. I am excited for him to try these jeans and the camo slip on’s are a fun change from his regular sneakers.  A light jacket is a closet staple and something he is in need of and this button up is perfect for layering, a dressier occasion or for some pictures on the beach; which ALWAYS make me smile.

Adding quality, versatile pieces to their closets is important to me and I am excited to add a few more of the new Gymboree pieces to each of their wardrobes for back to school and beyond.  Follow us on Instagram to see how we’re living in and loving new pieces from the brand new Gymboree; it’s sure to make you smile.

MINI FALL CAPSULE WARDROBE – PART 1

The idea of having a capsule wardrobe has intrigued me for awhile.  However, I never fully embraced the idea for two reasons:

First, I didn’t think I could or would purge everything, every purse, every accessory every everything!  Since I knew we were moving and had a closet full of stuff that was never worn and would never be worn by me again I began purging.  The more I purged from my closet and dresser, the more I wanted to get rid of. When we knew we would be renting through the fall and winter months it felt like the perfect time to put all of those maybe items into boxes and into storage.  It was a way to get them out of my closet without getting rid of them.  When it’s time to move into our home next spring, I can really decide if they should be part of my wardrobe or be donated.

The second reason I didn’t get on board the capsule wardrobe train earlier was because I’ve had the intention of taking better care of myself for awhile but never fully committing to it.  What’s the point of creating a capsule wardrobe and possibly purchasing new items only for them not to fit a few months later?  The point is to have something to wear, something to feel good in, and to be put together running around town.

So much of what I’ve been wearing has long seen better days.  Since I have to replace many staples in my closet anyway, this is the perfect time to both try out the capsule wardrobe concept and take better care of myself.  I’ve decided to really try taking better care of myself and an onsite gym leaves little room for excuses. I am going to create a capsule wardrobe for the fall and winter.

Whether I tried creating a capsule or not, I need new clothes and shoes for the cooler months.  Since I also plan on losing some weight, I am going to keep those purchases to a minimum as they are not forever pieces in my wardrobe.

I’m calling this a mini capsule because it has substantially fewer pieces than a traditional capsule wardrobe.

Here’s my rough list:

If you use a capsule wardrobe, I would love to hear how you like it and any tips or ticks you have.  I will post updates once I get this project underway.  Wish me luck.

WEEK AND WEEKEND WEAR

This post contains affiliate links.  That means if you click on a link and make a purchase from the site, I will earn a small commission from the sale.

I am a little ashamed to admit that I have let myself go in a major way, but have been taking steps to get back to the person I was and want to be.  One part of that for me is taking time for myself, dressing better and looking put together.   I know I need to step up my game and  thought others may be in the same boat.  I am not pretending to be a fashion blogger and this series is inspiration for myself as well as for anyone who may be reading.  These posts will not be anything crazy, but practical and put together looks for the week and weekend.  I hope it inspires you as much as it has me.  I know I always feel better about myself if I look decent, funny how that happens, isn’t it?

Blouse – Loft, Pants – Loft, Shoes – Steve Madden, Plaid Shirt – Madewell, Jeans – Free People, Shoes – Vans

I spend my week days working between my home office and my actual office that has business casual dress attire.  I am currently putting the casual in business casual and know I need to step it up a notch.  For office attire, I love this blouse with a slim fitting black pant and a fun leopard flat.  Add some gold jewelry and it looks put together, season appropriate and polished.

I have also been slacking on my weekend wear.  With two little kids, I have just been putting on whatever is clean and calling it a day.  Well, not anymore.  A plaid shirt, ripped skinny jeans and slip on sneakers looks put together and is the perfect outfit for playing with the kids, running errands or hanging with my husband.  Much better than what is currently hanging in my maternity filled closet.

If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them.  Leave a comment below!
