MINI STYLE – SHOES FOR FALL

The kids started school last week which means we had to ditch the flip flops for closed toe shoes; for school anyway.  A few weeks ago we bought the kids new sneakers (or do you call them tennis shoes? gym shoes? running shoes?  I think it’s a regional thing, but my husband makes fun of me… whatever you call them) and some Natives.  I knew Dylan would likely wear his Nike’s everyday but was hoping Lexi would switch it up a little.  So far, all she wants to wear are her black and hot pink Nikes.  I have nothing against a comfortable sneaker, but I not so secretly hope I can lure her into some other options before too long.  She’s always liked shoes so hopefully this won’t be too hard.  Here are a few completely school appropriate closed toe shoes and boots I am loving for Lexi for fall and winter.Mini Style: shoes for fall

  1. Old Navy had either the same boots or very similar last year and they sold out before I bought a pair. I love Old Navy shoes for Lexi.  They are always have the cutest styles and you can’t beat the price.  If they take a beating on the playground, I don’t feel too bad about it.
  2. I’ve had my eye on these gold ballet flats for a long time.  I think she would love them because they are similar to her ballet shoes for dance but she can wear them outside.  They would be perfect with some of our favorite dresses and rompers now and jeans later into the fall.  I hope she loves these as much as I do.
  3. Another shoe Old Navy either brought back or released it’s twin sister this year; T-Strap Mary Jane’s.  I saw these enough around Instagram last year to give them a second thought this year.  With dresses and knee high’s I think I can get on board.
  4. Like everyone else, I love these Adidas shoes.  I’m pretty sure I had some back in middle school or high school and kind of want a pair myself.  Maybe if we twin, she will be into them?
  5. I’ve been lusting after these boots since I first saw them last fall.  I love them with dresses and think they would be equally cute with leggings or skinny jeans too.

And a few others we just can’t get enough of….

These rain boots are super cute for a pop of color to any outfit.  Lex loved wearing her pink boots even when it wasn’t raining – which is a good thing since it hardly ever rains here.  We’ve had a very similar version of these black boots the last two years and they aren’t heavy so I don’t have to worry about her tripping and falling and held up really well.  I also love Converse, they just look so good with just about anything.  If you haven’t tried them with these striped knee highs, you’re missing out.

I really love these shoes for Dylan, but will probably wait until it’s cool enough for jeans.  I need to keep an eye out for some dressier shoes for him as well.  If you see anything for boys you love, let me know.

RED, WHITE & BLUE FOR THE LITTLE LADY

Happy May Day! I can hardly believe it’s May. It seems like just yesterday it was Valentine’s Day and here we are already in May!

We’re going to hit 100 degrees for the first time this week so it’s fitting that we start to think about summer and all of the fun things we have in store including summer holidays! Whether it’s Memorial Day, the Fourth of July (my favorite!) or any summer day; red, white and blue looks as fresh and summery as it does patriotic. I’ve been keeping an eye out for Americana releases at some of our favorite stores and they are starting to hit the shelves. Here are a few of my current favorites for the little lady in your life. I’m sure my list will grow and of course we need some festive pajamas too.

I always think it’s funny when one of the kids happens to get a glimpse of a collage I am working on. Lex saw this one and would like that bathing suit in her closet as soon as possible. Since we will spend Memorial Day and the 4th (and every other day this summer) at the pool, and she loves it; it should probably happen – right?

Any of the other outfits would be so cute with a cute hat like this or this and red sandals during the day. Add a jacket, I love this one or this one, and swap the sandals for some chucks for the evening and s’more making or playing with sparklers.  Just thinking about it has me excited for summer!

It seems like rainbows have been popping up all over over the last couple of months and I’m starting to develop a small crush on all things rainbow for Lex this spring and summer.  Here are a few of my current favorites:Style Crush: Rainbows

WISH LIST: BOYS SWIM

A couple of weeks ago I went through Dylan’s dresser pulling out the items that he’s outgrown.  I quickly realized he needs new swim trunks in a major way.  I left one pair from last year and to be honest, I am not sure they will even fit.  This week is his spring break and it’s supposed to hit 85 degrees at least once, so clearly it’s time to get him some new swim trunks for spring and summer.

He’s in that awkward stage where he’s too big for most of the stuff in the toddler section but depending on what it is the smallest size in the boys section of the store is still too big. It makes shopping for him a real challenge right now. I think he will have an opinion on what swim trunks he likes, so I’ve rounded up a few I’m loving and then will let him choose his favorites.

DYLAN’S BIG BOY ROOM PLANS

I think I’ve said this before but getting the kids rooms situated is high on my list of priorities when we move into our new house.  They’ve been so good about moving, putting their things in storage and the general uprooting that happens when you move twice in twelve months.  Today I thought I’d share what I’m thinking of for Dylan’s new room.  He needs new bedding and decor so this is the perfect time to freshen up his room and make it more of a place for the boy that he is rather than the baby we brought home from the hospital.  Someone pass the tissues.

Growing up we didn’t have overly themed bedrooms but had “kid” sheets. For awhile my brother and I both had California Raisin sheets – only in the eighties. ha!  I tend to favor the same style of rooms for our kids.  Luckily for me, Pottery Barn Kids has bedding the kids and I both love and it’s super easy to change out the sheets without making over the whole room when their tastes change.Boy Room Plansduvet | light | quilt | sheets | pillow

For Dylan’s new room I’m leaning toward shades of navy, grey, white and pops of red.  For his bedding I love the plaid duvet cover and shams, navy and grey quilt, the cutest truck sheets and a throw pillow for some texture.  Dylan saw me looking at lighting and really wants the ‘blue one’ so that’s probably what we will get.  I’m leaning toward a light grey for the walls which will look really nice with his dark brown furniture.

I initially wanted to put a license plate map of the USA above his dresser but I’m having a hard time finding one with good reviews; if you know of one, let me know.  With that being said, I am not sure what we will hang on his walls just yet.  If there’s room next to his bed, I think a couple of these shelves would be nice to add to hold some books to read before bed.

The overall feel of the room fits Dylan now and can grow with him for a number of years, which is a win in my book.  There you have it, what I’m thinking of right now for Dylan’s big boy room.  It will be interesting to see what stays and what changes in the coming months.
