WEEK AND WEEKEND WEAR

I am a little ashamed to admit that I have let myself go in a major way, but have been taking steps to get back to the person I was and want to be.  One part of that for me is taking time for myself, dressing better and looking put together.   I know I need to step up my game and  thought others may be in the same boat.  I am not pretending to be a fashion blogger and this series is inspiration for myself as well as for anyone who may be reading.  These posts will not be anything crazy, but practical and put together looks for the week and weekend.  I hope it inspires you as much as it has me.  I know I always feel better about myself if I look decent, funny how that happens, isn’t it?

I spend my week days working between my home office and my actual office that has business casual dress attire.  I am currently putting the casual in business casual and know I need to step it up a notch.  For office attire, I love this blouse with a slim fitting black pant and a fun leopard flat.  Add some gold jewelry and it looks put together, season appropriate and polished.

I have also been slacking on my weekend wear.  With two little kids, I have just been putting on whatever is clean and calling it a day.  Well, not anymore.  A plaid shirt, ripped skinny jeans and slip on sneakers looks put together and is the perfect outfit for playing with the kids, running errands or hanging with my husband.  Much better than what is currently hanging in my maternity filled closet.

If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them.  Leave a comment below!

We are finally starting to have cooler mornings and evenings but still firmly stuck in summer weather during the day, I hope we can break out some fall clothes around here soon.  There are so many cute pieces that I would love to add to Alexis’ closet this fall.  A couple of weeks ago I posted about my current favorite color combination, mustard yellow and denim, you can read about it here.  In case that isn’t your thing, here are some other pieces that are perfect for fall and winter.

FOUR YEARS

Four years ago today I married my best friend.  We had a small wedding and I loved every detail then and still do today.  We used an amazing wedding planner to help make the details I so desired a reality.  The sunset color scheme fit perfectly with our outdoor wedding.

Happy Anniversary Nick.  There is no one else I would have wanted to walk through life with.  Four years brought us a new home, two children and two job changes, I am excited to see what the next four and beyond have in store.  Here is a peek back at our wedding day.

Growing up it was my dream to get married on a beach in Hawaii.  For a number of reasons, we didn’t get married in Hawaii but chose to do a rock the dress/trash the dress session on our honeymoon in Maui instead.   I couldn’t be happier with the decision.  I knew I would never wear the dress again, and it wasn’t something a potentially future daughter would wear due to the trendy style.

If you are thinking about doing one of these sessions, you should.  It was so fun (he even said so too) and for me anyway, having beautiful photos for a lifetime is better than a pristine dress in a box never to be worn again.

OUR HAWAIIAN VACATION

We spent the last week of September in Maui and it was such a great week!  We spent most of our day at the pool or beach playing in the sand, swimming and enjoying the water slides.  The hotel we stayed at had a number of small slides perfect for the kids.

Most mornings we went straight to baby beach so the kids could play.  It is a genius sand entry into the swimming pool.  In addition to the waterslides, this was our favorite spot.  Dylan could dig in the sand until his heart was content and Alexis loved sitting the shallow water splashing and playing with the sandy bottom.  Since we were always one of the first people at the pool, it also was the perfect spot for Alexis to take her morning nap.

Dylan also really enjoyed the beach in front of the hotel, he called it “big boy beach”.  I wasn’t sure how it would go, whenever we are in California he hasn’t been much of a beach loving guy, but once he got to the shore, he was happy playing for quite awhile.

If this hotel lobby looks familiar to you, it may be because this is where Adam Sandler’s Just Go With It was filmed.  Nick and I had fun trying to find different areas around the hotel from the movie.

Maui, you are one of my favorite vacation destinations.  Thanks for the memories, I hope we are back real soon!

BIKINI BABY

We spent last week playing in the pool and building sandcastles in Maui.  When we booked our trip, I knew Alexis would be about the age I was on my first trip to Hawaii and I wanted to get a few photos of her in my very first bikini, a red Hawaiian bikini purchased in Kauai in 1983.  So, 31 years later, here is my baby in my itsy bitsy teeny weeny little red Hawaiian bikini.  While I wore it as an actual suit back in 1983, she only wore it for a few minutes for me to get these pictures, then it was back to her rash guard and bikini bottoms.  Baby girl, you were a good sport, we love you.  Check back next week for more of our Hawaiian vacation.
