CHICK MAGNET

Happy first day of Spring!  Each spring one of our favorite local photographers offers the cutest spring sessions as a charity event.  She has live chicks and bunnies for the event and all of the pictures are seriously the cutest ever.  Last year Dylan was SO into it and Lex, well – not so much (which is why there aren’t any pictures of her).  These are last year’s pictures and Dylan was a total chick magnet.

The kids are getting excited to get their pictures taken with the chicks and bunnies again this year.  Lex is on board as long as the animals are in a basket.  Fingers crossed she holds true to that.

WISH LIST: BOYS SWIM

This post contains affiliate links. That means if you click on a link and make a purchase from the site, I will earn a small commission from the sale.

A couple of weeks ago I went through Dylan’s dresser pulling out the items that he’s outgrown.  I quickly realized he needs new swim trunks in a major way.  I left one pair from last year and to be honest, I am not sure they will even fit.  This week is his spring break and it’s supposed to hit 85 degrees at least once, so clearly it’s time to get him some new swim trunks for spring and summer.

He’s in that awkward stage where he’s too big for most of the stuff in the toddler section but depending on what it is the smallest size in the boys section of the store is still too big. It makes shopping for him a real challenge right now. I think he will have an opinion on what swim trunks he likes, so I’ve rounded up a few I’m loving and then will let him choose his favorites.

PLAY! BY SEPHORA – FEBRUARY 2017

This post contains affiliate links.  That means if you click on a link and make a purchase from the site, I will earn a small commission from the sale.

I recently received my second Play! by Sephora box and I like the contents of this box a little bit more than the January box.  Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription beauty box.  For ten dollars, you receive five deluxe samples of beauty products sold at Sephora as well as a perfume sample and card to redeem in Sephora stores for 50 extra beauty insider points with any in-store purchase.

This month’s theme was “The Soft Side” – make a radiant understatement.  This theme is perfect for me and my current daily makeup routine which is admittedly pretty simple these days.

Here’s what was in my box and what the Sephora info sheet that’s included with the box has to say about each.  I’ve yet to try them out and will let you know what I think soon!

NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Bound – A nude-pink, stay-stay-all day liquid lipstick that applies easily and leaves a semi-matte finish with a silky feel.  I can’t decide how I feel about matte lips on myself so I am excited to try out this lip glide in a color I would have been drawn to in the store.

Too Faced Lip Injections Glossy in Milkshake – Sheer tinted gloss uses a botanical-infused formula to visibly plump lips instantly while also hydrating and softening over time.  I love a sheer lip gloss and have been loving the Buxom glosses lately which are also a plumping formula so hopefully this one is just as good.

Sephora Lashcraft Length & Volume Mascara – A jet-black volumizing mascara with an innovative flat paddle-shaped wand to lengthen and lift lashes.  They say this formula washes away with just water.  I’m excited to give it a try to see if it stays without smudging but washes away easily.  If it does, I may just have found my new favorite mascara.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream – A luminous eye cream infused with coffee beans, ginseng, and magnolia extract to visibly brighten and depuff the undereye area.  I love Origins products but this is one I haven’t tried so I’m happy to have a sample of this eye cream.

Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer – A lightweight, oil-free moisturizer-meets-primer instantly blurs imperfections while providing all-day hydration for a silky, soft-focus finish.  This is another one I’m excited to try.  They also say you can use it over your make up for quick fixes during the day – simply pat into areas that need extra shine control and hydration.

Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence perfume sample – Effervescent, floral, and bright, this sparkling, champagne-doused scent is the embodiment of luxury and glamour.  To be honest, I could do without the perfume samples so I am simply going to tell you what the Sephora card and let you try it for yourself if you’re interested.

Overall, I am pretty happy with this box.  Receiving two lip products is right up my alley.  I love trying lip products but rarely finish them before moving onto the next so deluxe sample sizes are perfect for me.  They are also great to travel with without taking up much room in a TSA approved bag for liquids.

FRIDAY FAVORITES

Happy Friday! We should probably just call this Friday Favorites -spring holiday edition. Lots of favorites for all of the fun things coming up in March and April but my first favorite today goes to Dylan.  He ran in his first fun run this week and I’m beyond impressed with the Apex Fun Run, you can read more about it our experience here.

Spring training is underway and I love this tee for Lex and this jersey for Dylan.

It’s no secret that we love Ryan and Wren hair clips and their new lime green glitter clip is the perfect accessory to avoid getting pinched on St. Patrick’s Day.

In keeping with the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, June & January is releasing some items in Kelly green tonight. If you are new to June & January, use this referral code for 15% off your first order.

It’s almost time to start thinking about putting together Easter Baskets. Lex will still tell you that the Easter Bunny brought her these shoes last year. I love filling their baskets with a few fun things and then the rest with stuff I would have bought anyway. I love this fun necklace for Lex.  Dylan is hoping the Easter Bunny brings him another Rescue Bot.

Who can resist holiday pajamas? I love these for Easter.

That’s all I’ve got for today.  I hope you have a great weekend!

APEX FUN RUN

When Dylan started kindergarten last fall I was so excited for all of the fun elementary school activities I remembered from childhood; the halloween parade, Christmas program and a class party for every holiday.  I found out pretty quickly that his elementary experience would be drastically different than my own.  Spoiler alert – if it’s not educational, it’s not happening.  When his school announced that their spring fundraiser would be the Apex Fun Run, I had no idea what it was or what to expect but am throughly impressed.  The lessons they learned through this program while raising money for their school are far better than selling wrapping paper or pizzas to neighbors.

For the past week and a half Dylan’s school has been participating in the Apex Fun Run.  He started the week not wanting to run but quickly changed his mind after the assembly they had to kick off the event on Monday morning.  He came home so excited and couldn’t wait to start seeking pledges for the laps he would run a week and a half later.  Each day he would wake up and be so excited to call and thank anyone who pledged to support him the night before.  He was so very grateful and proud of himself for each dollar he raised.

The Apex team met with the kids each day to teach a lesson and keep them excited.  The Apex Fun Run is so much more than just a fun run or school fundraiser.  The lessons taught throughout the week and a half to the kids are so good.  They learn about what it takes to become legendary leaders.  Just a few of the lessons the kids learned were about being engaged, being empowered, and never quitting.  The day of the never quit lesson, his teacher sent home an email with the following: Michael Jordan missed 9,000 shots (26 of those being for the game point), and lost over 300 games during his career is but he is one of the greats because he never quit.  As an adult that’s such a good reminder about how great things can happen when you don’t quit and one I am glad my son is being taught in school as well.

Today was the actual fun run and I couldn’t be more proud of Dylan for going out and running all 26 laps, which is 2.3 miles, and having time to spare.  It’s not something I could do and probably couldn’t have done at five years old either.  If you have the chance to support a student running in an Apex Fun Run, I highly recommend supporting them.  It means so much to them and the lessons they are learning are creating legendary leaders through fitness and will be with them long after the run is over.
